OPC recently designed and developed the Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority (IPEA) website

OPC’s web team developed the new website using the Drupal based govCMS distribution. The site was launched in November 2017 and provides significant navigational and design improvements, being more suited to mobile access.

OPC has also assisted IPEA with an online facility, that is available on the IPEA website site to search and report on parliamentarians work expenses.

On 1 July 2017, IPEA was established as a Commonwealth statutory authority with the core objectives being to audit and report on parliamentarians' work expenses. It provides advice to parliamentarians and their staff on travel and work related expenses to support them in undertaking their duties, requiring that taxpayer funds be spent appropriately and in compliance with the relevant principles and regulations.

In October 2017 IPEA released the first quarterly expenditure reports for current and former parliamentarians, covering the period 1 January to 31 March 2017.

Acting CEO Leonie McGregor confirmed that this first expenditure report released through the IPEA would help improve transparency and accountability. Previously reports on parliamentarians’ expenditure have only been released every six months.

It is the report that can end a parliamentary career – revealing how much federal MPs have spent on travel, charter flights, office facilities and other work expenses.

Announced after the travel scandal that led to the demise of former health minister Sussan Ley, the new quarterly report was touted by the federal government as one of the biggest reforms to the expenses system in a generation.
