Australian Electoral Commission

ECANZ website

Project Overview

The Electoral Council of Australia and New Zealand is a consultative council of the Electoral Commissioners from electoral authorities of the Commonwealth, States and Territories of Australia and New Zealand. The ECANZ considers issues about the development and maintenance of the electoral roll for elections and matters of electoral administration.

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) selected OPC to design and redevelop the ECANZ website on the govCMS SaaS platform.

The website ( was originally built utilising a proprietary content management system (CMS), the licence of which was set to expire.

Why was OPC chosen?

OPC has specialised in building Drupal CMS websites for over a decade and in more recent times specifically utilising the govCMS distribution and hosting platform.

OPC was selected for this project through an RFQ on the Department of Finance Drupal Services Panel (DSP).

Project goals, requirements and outcomes

The AEC brief specified that the content of the previous ECANZ website was to be reorganised and migrated to the redesigned structure. The primary use for the website is public education and information.

The new Information Architecture is reflected on the new website. The new website design featured a rotating banner containing similar images of both Australia and New Zealand that appear simultaneously and the logo palette was referenced in the design.

OPC’s experienced Drupal web development team worked closely with the AEC’s National executive team to meet all requirements of the project ahead of deadline.
